Toku’s BioAge leverages AI-powered algorithms and retinal photography to estimate our biological age, helping individuals take charge of their overall health.

Benefits for your patients?

Knowing your BioAge can help determine:

  • The age which the body is functioning at
  • How the health of your patient compares to others like them
  • General recommendations for how to improve health

Benefits for your practice?

  • Extend optometry beyond just eye care
  • Add an additional revenue stream, no investment
  • Differentiate offering from competitors
  • Increases customer satisfaction & retention

How BioAge works

To determine a person’s BioAge, we start by photographing the blood vessels in the back of the eyes.

Step 1

To do the test, only images of the retina are required, as well as a few details such as age, gender, and ethnicity.

Step 2

The retinal images are then run through our AI engine and deep learning technology to determine the BioAge.

Step 3

Results are generated providing the biological age, health risk levels and potential recommendations. Clinicians can view results in PDF format while individuals can access them via our online portal.

The Science behind BioAge

Our AI platform utilizes a revolutionary, patented* method to evaluate more than 23 million technical parameters and 12 biological parameters in each retinal image, to produce a BioAge outcome.

4. Image Clarity

Provides insight to the rate at which your lens is aging

What does the AI see in the retinal image?

For BioAge, our AI algorithm learns by analyzing different examples of fundus images so it learns what to look for. We give it images with known outcomes, so it learns the connection between certain patterns in the images and specific results.

Once trained, the AI can analyze new fundus images and provide insights based on its learning, like our BioAge.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of test is BioAge?

BioAge is a test that uses AI software technology on images of your retina (the back of your eye) to determine your biological age.

Is the BioAge test safe?

The BioAge software has no associated risks. As part of the BioAge process, customers will need to have eye images taken using a fundus camera.

Who can take a BioAge assessment?

BioAge has only been designed for people between the ages of 35-75. Currently, BioAge is not designed for individuals who have had a previous cardiac event or with persistent vision impairment, monocular vision, congenital eye disease, history of significant ocular trauma, pathological myopia or those who are pregnant.

What cameras are compatible for BioAge?

Topcon Maestro 2, NW400, TRC-NW8F, 3D OCT 1000 MARK II. Canon DGi non-mydriatic Fundus camera, canon CR2-AF. Other cameras can be validated on request. Does not work with Optos.

How often should BioAge be done?

Patients should be recommended to do an assessment every year.

How much does it cost?

Can I refer a customer based on their BioAge test?

This report is not intended to be used for medical decisions or replace professional medical advice. However if customers are concerned, they can take the BioAge fact sheet to their health provider which provides the science behind BioAge.

How long does it take?

The BioAge result is usually returned within 20-40 seconds of pressing the button. The whole BioAge process can add a few minutes onto appointment times.

How quickly can I have this?

We can turn on BioAge for any clinic in Australia and NZ within one week of Harmony being set up and working.
